Oxford, the #electriCITY

Categories Cities0 Comments

EN: A few weeks ago one of my best friend visited me and we’ve spent a day in Oxford. So, we hopped in my car and drove until a “park and ride”area. If you decide to visit Oxford, I suggest you to let your car at home and have a complete tourist experience in a double-decker bus. It is faster and it takes you straight to the city center. From there we followed the crowd on a very busy street. After a little while we left them behind and walked into the Oxford Castle.

If you ever find yourself in there, you may not notice but there is a prisoner behind a window (actually a screed) which really looks like is interacting with you (on the souvenir side of the castle). It seems extremely suggestive to me because we all should know how people were treated in there in the past century, and a show some solitude at the same time for the ex imprison. We didn’t spend too much time at the castle because we were focused from the beginning on seeing the University of Oxford and the park surrounding it.

So we searched it on the map of the streets and left towards it. Even tough I was in Oxford before, I’ve never seen it and I can say, it is way more beautiful than I expected. It has exactly the type of architecture you imagine when you think about the oldest English Speaking University and the second oldest University in the world. Around it you can find broad alleys which take you to the river where you can ride a boat or go to the Botanic Garden.

Now I am thinking about how proud the parents of the 22.000 young adults who study there are. If you will walk on the Oxford’s streets, you will definitely be impressed by the hundreds of bikers cycling around, you’ll see even more bikes waiting for their owners on the streets and thousands of students.

For me, Oxford it’s quite paradoxical, because I’ve never believed that a place so old and full of history can have such a young fresh air. If you aren’t convinced yet, there is another part of my Oxford experience coming soon on my blog. So, stay tuned!
